In 1967, Shelby advanced the Mustang GT350 concept by installing a 428 CI Police Interceptor V-8 engine into the updated Mustang body style. Additional performance upgrades included replacing the front end, hood, decklid, rear tail light assembly, quarter panel extensions, and side scoops with fiberglass components. Renamed the GT500, 2,048 units of this high-performance Shelby Mustang were produced between 1967 and 1969.
Fast forward to 2011, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Ford and Shelby American introduced a new, second-generation Shelby GT500, hailed as the most powerful Mustang ever. It featured a 5.8L, DOHC, 4-valve, supercharged, and intercooled V-8 engine generating 662 HP and 631 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. This power was delivered through a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission, giving the new GT500 a claimed top speed of 202 MPH.
This 2011 Shelby GT500 convertible is also currently up for sale on Bring A Trailer with only 8k miles on the odometer, making it an ideal weekend cruiser for its next owner, or as a head-turning daily driver.
