In 1991, as Carroll Shelby constructed high-performance Dodges and companies like Saleen and Steeda offered enhanced versions of the popular 5.0L Mustang, the Shelby American Automobile Club acknowledged the absence of the Shelby name in the new wave of hot Mustangs. In collaboration with Ford, the national club for Shelby vehicles established the SAAC Car Company as a manufacturer tasked with developing and producing a limited number of SAAC MK I Mustangs for 1992.

The SAAC Car Company collaborated with Ford and Carroll Shelby to create a modern version of the iconic Shelby GT350, resulting in the production of four prototypes of the MKI Mustang. This 1991 SAAC Mustang served as the fourth and final MKI prototype created by the SAAC Car Company, an extension of the Shelby American Automobile Club. The vehicle was used as a press vehicle and was prominently featured in marketing materials.
