Mustang Of The Day: 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prototype

The 2014 GT500 Super Snake began as Ford’s mighty 662 HP Shelby GT500—the most potent factory Mustang of its time. However, Shelby didn’t stop there. They pushed the boundaries further, boosting the performance with upgrades like a supercharger, Ford Performance suspension, and massive disc brakes.

Starting as a 2014 GT500, the Mustang was transformed at the Shelby American factory in Las Vegas. The 5.8L V-8 engine received a polished Whipple supercharger, elevating the power output to a staggering 850 HP. This immense power was channeled to the road through a 6-speed manual transmission.

In its most formidable guise, the 2014 Shelby GT500 Super Snake stood as one of the era’s most formidable street-legal production vehicles. Only surpassed in performance by Shelby’s own Shelby 1000 series Mustang, which also made waves during the same period.

This particular car held a special role as a test mule for Shelby American, undergoing rigorous trials from May to December of 2014. It’s a testament to Shelby’s dedication to pushing the limits of performance and engineering excellence.
