One of the most popular movie cars ever made is the ‘Eleanor,’ a Shelby GT500 that became famous for being part in the 1974 B-movie “Gone in Sixty Seconds.” The film was later remade in 2000 with Nicholas Cage as the central character, a car thief.
The movie featured an array of impressive cars, but the 1967 Ford Mustang GT500 in Pepper Gray Metallic with black stripes, mounted on Halibrand-style wheels and adorned with various enhancements, emerged as the hero car and an instant dream car—’Eleanor’. Designed by Steve Stanford and refined by Chip Foose, ‘Eleanor’ embodied what Chip believed Carroll Shelby would envision as a modern-day GT500.
This ‘Eleanor’ tribute that was once featured on Top Gear was modified using components that were actually used for the actual movie car, including a 328ci (5.4-litre) V8 engine and manual transmission, authentic body and body kit, fiberglass bonnet and boot lid, window glass, headlights, fog lights, and tail lights, side-exit exhaust, Koni shock absorbers, Wilwood disc brakes, ‘Go Baby Go’ gear lever knob, pedals, steering wheel, gauges, seats, deluxe interior, carpet, headlining, radio, wheel rims, radiator, side fuel filler, and a nitrous oxide tank and switch.
