The GT500 introduced in 1967 was a completely different machine from the Shelby models that came before it. Notably, it was equipped with a 428 CID engine boasting two 600-CFM Holley carburetors, delivering 355 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

Buyers had the option of pairing this powerhouse with either a four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic transmission. The engine’s features included a cast aluminum intake manifold. In fact, the GT500 had two engine choices for 1967 – the other being Ford’s 427 CID V8, which was considerably pricier than the Shelby-modified 428 CID unit.
