In the previous S550 generation, Ford offered various engine options, but the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder became the base powertrain after the V6 was phased out. However, the 2024 S650 brings a revamped version of the 2.3-liter engine. It boasts features like port and direct injection, a new twin-scroll turbo, and an updated EGR system for improved longevity. Despite maintaining the same displacement, this engine delivers 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. While it falls short by 165 horsepower compared to the V8, the torque difference is only 65 pound-feet.
For those considering the EcoBoost, there’s an enticing option – the 2.3-liter high-performance package. This package, priced between three and four thousand dollars, transforms the handling and character of the car. It includes unique wheels, summer tires, Brembo brakes, a revised suspension with magneride capability, and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
