FOR SALE: 1967 Shelby Mustang GT350 Fastback

One of 1,174 fastbacks built for the model year

Though Carroll Shelby’s Cobra appeared nearly unbeatable on the circuit, Shelby—alongside Ken Miles, Phil Remington, and the hard-charging Shelby American crew—transformed the Ford Mustang into a dominant force in SCCA B-Production racing, securing three straight SCCA National Championships from 1965 to 1967.

Amid this intense period, Shelby American still managed to turn out several thousand road cars. However, balancing motorsport commitments with production demands proved challenging, prompting Ford Motor Company to step in by late 1966 and take on a greater role in operations to improve quality control and increase output.

Acknowledging Shelby’s strength as a performance brand, Ford struck an agreement in 1967 that shifted GT350 and GT500 Mustang production to a newly formed entity, Shelby Automotive, Inc., with manufacturing handled by A.O. Smith near Detroit. In return, Shelby retained control over his racing team as well as parts and accessories ventures.

Now listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, this Shelby GT350 Fastback is one of 1,174 fastbacks built for the model year. Completed on February 16 and designated Shelby No. 01146, it features a K-Code-based, Shelby-tuned 289ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car was originally delivered to Gotham Ford in New York, finished in Lime Gold over a black Décor interior with front bucket seats.

Notable equipment includes power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering, a center console, fold-down rear seats, the Courtesy Light Group, and the Extra Cooling Package, along with white side stripes. It rides on 15-inch five-spoke Magstar alloy wheels with Cobra-branded center caps wrapped in Goodyear tires, while braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
