A One-Off 1967 Ford Mustang ‘Rocket’ Heads to Auction

A custom-built 1967 Ford Mustang known as 'Rocket'

A radically transformed 1967 Ford Mustang Custom Fastback known as “Rocket” is set to cross the auction block at Mecum Auctions’ Harrisburg 2026 sale on Saturday, July 25. Far removed from its factory origins, the custom-built fastback represents a comprehensive performance-focused build that blends classic Mustang styling with modern drag-racing hardware and high-end engineering.

The project was completed by Wolfpack Rides, resulting in a Mustang that emphasizes both visual impact and extreme horsepower. At its heart is a meticulously blueprinted 528-cubic-inch Ford big-block V-8, topped by a brand-new 8-71 supercharger to deliver immense forced-induction performance.

The engine has been assembled with premium forged internals, including an Eagle forged crankshaft, H-beam connecting rods, and Icon forged pistons, creating a robust foundation capable of handling significant power. A Herbert solid-roller camshaft, Kaase lifters, and Smith Brothers pushrods complement the valvetrain, while Ford Motorsport Super Cobra Jet cylinder heads and a 9.2:1 compression ratio optimize airflow and durability. The package is completed by a Rollmaster premium timing set equipped with a Torrington thrust bearing for enhanced reliability. Fuel delivery comes courtesy of dual Edelbrock carburetors featuring annular discharge boosters, paired with upgraded accelerator pumps and nozzles to improve throttle response and maximize the engine’s performance under boost.

Backing the supercharged V-8 is a race-prepared C4 automatic transmission fitted with a reverse manual valve body, an integrated transbrake, and a dedicated transmission cooler to withstand high-performance use. Power is transferred to a Strange 9-inch rear axle equipped with 3.73:1 gears, providing an ideal balance between acceleration and drivability.

Beyond its formidable drivetrain, the Mustang has undergone extensive chassis modifications. A tube chassis forms the backbone of the build, complemented by a four-link rear suspension, front struts, and manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping power is supplied by four-wheel disc brakes, while lightweight Weld Racing wheels complete the competition-inspired setup.

Visually, the fastback commands attention with its Candy Apple Red finish accented by white racing stripes. Additional exterior enhancements include rear window louvers, a hinged and pinned hood, and shaved door handles, giving the car a clean yet aggressive appearance.

Inside, the custom theme continues with gray Corbeau bucket seats, a tilt and telescopic steering column, and a billet steering wheel, creating a driver-focused cockpit that blends comfort with race-ready functionality. Supporting components such as a racing alternator and the use of Mobil 1 0W-50 racing oil further reflect the build’s performance-oriented philosophy.
