Taking The 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR For A Drive

The 2021 Shelby GT500 King of the Road (KR) made its long-awaited return with Ford’s 5.2L Supercharged V8 cranked up to a whopping 900 horsepower from the stock 760. This marked only the third time in history that a Shelby GT500 has carried the iconic “King of the Road” moniker, following models from 1968 and 2008.

Limited to just 180 units, with 60 produced per model year, this edition is a rare find indeed. Externally, the GT500 KR flaunts a new carbon fiber hood, shedding weight and featuring exposed carbon fiber louvers, alongside abundant Shelby branding throughout.

Underneath, the engine bay houses a gleaming 3.8L Whipple supercharger, supported by upgraded heat exchangers, a cold air intake system, and a beefed-up intercooler. The suspension receives attention too, with adjustable ride height springs, performance sway bars, and a recalibrated MagnaRide system for enhanced track performance.Inside, the GT500 KR treats occupants to new leather seat covers with a distinctive snake skin effect, accompanied by a personalized CSM plaque.
