Mustang Of The Day: 2018 Ford Shelby GT-H Prototype Convertible

This Ford Shelby GT-H convertible is a part of a program aimed at reviving an iconic idea that originated in 1966. Back then, the Hertz Rental Car Corporation introduced the exclusive “Rent-a-Racer” program, enabling average individuals to experience a sports car with genuine racing DNA. This campaign was a resounding success, with approximately 1,000 units sent to Hertz, many of them sporting a special black and gold livery, each equipped with the potent Shelby 289/306 HP V-8 engine.

This specific 2018 GT-H convertible was created to usher in the next era of Hertz Rent-a-Racers, currently available for rent at approximately $99 a day, plus fees. The GT-H boasts an Oxford White exterior with a power-operated black convertible top, adorned by gold stripes and matching gold Shelby Heritage wheels. Distinctive design elements such as a unique front end, rear spoiler, and other carefully crafted details set it apart from other Mustangs.

Under the hood, a robust 5.0L supercharged V-8 engine delivers power, coupled with an automatic transmission. An authoritative exhaust note is provided by a Borla cat-back exhaust system, while a Magneride suspension ensures a comfortable ride.

Needless to say, the GT-H has significantly evolved from its original days in terms of performance and creature comforts. The Ebony leather interior offers heated and cooled, power-operated bucket seats, dual climate control, an AM/FM stereo with SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, a rearview camera with reverse sensing system, and an integrated roll bar.
