Mustang Of The Day: 2015 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prototype

Shelby’s iconic machines aren’t the ones rolling off assembly lines in Detroit with Carroll’s name attached; instead, they emerge as masterpieces crafted by the wizards in Shelby’s own workshop. It’s in this sanctum that the Cobra, the original GT350, and the more recent GT500 Super Snake were born. Beginning with a Mustang GT, Shelby America’s horsepower experts embarked on a mission to transform a swift car into a formidable force.

Available in various packages, the pinnacle was the $54,999 “750+ HP” package, an addition to the cost of the new Mustang GT donor car. Boasting a colossal Kenne Bell supercharger, enhanced suspension, Wilwood disc brakes, a short-throw shifter, front and rear splitters, a carbon fiber hood, and more, this Snake could accelerate to 60mph in under 4 seconds and achieve 0.98g on the skidpad.

This is not just any Super Snake but an original prototype. Adorned with nearly every option Shelby envisioned, it gleams in a dark red finish with a matching red and black leather interior. Featured in prestigious car shows and publications like Road & Track, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and more, this Super Snake isn’t merely a display piece. It served as both a testing ground and a promotional tool for Shelby.
