In 2008, Ford Racing unveiled the Cobra Jet Mustang, a tribute to the original Cobra Jet’s triumph at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals, celebrating its 40th anniversary. This specialized Mustang, purpose-built for drag racing, continued to captivate enthusiasts in subsequent years.

Straight from the factory, these 2014 models clocked impressive 8-second quarter-mile times, propelled by a potent combination of a 5.0L Ti-VCT engine, a 3-speed race transmission fine-tuned by Joel’s on Joy, and a Strange Engineering 9-inch rear end featuring 4.88:1 gears.

To handle the immense power generated by the 2.9L Whipple supercharger, the engine’s short-block received reinforcements, including a forged crankshaft, Manley H-beam connecting rods, and Mahle forged pistons. With custom-ground cams and enhanced airflow from CNC-ported heads, the supercharged 5.0L engine churned out an estimated 527 HP.
