Mustang Of The Day: 2009 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake Pace Car Special Edition

To celebrate 40 years of Mustang, Ford introduced the retro design fifth-generation Mustang for 2005, which paid homage largely to the 1967-69 Mustang. The fifth-generation Mustang introduced various special editions, including the Boss 302, Bullitt Mustang, Mustang GT/California Special, and a range of Shelby Mustangs. These included the Shelby GT-H, Shelby GT, Shelby GT-C, Shelby Terlingua, GT350, GT500, and the Super Snake.

In 2008, the Super Snake was offered which saw 2007 GT500s rebuilt into more powerful versions at the Shelby American plant in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 5.4L V-8 engine delivered 625 HP, with an optional Kenne Bell Supercharger pushing power levels over 725 HP. Supercharged variants achieved 0-60 MPH in around 3.5 seconds.

The 2009 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake was considered as the ultimate fifth-generation Mustang, exclusively available to Shelby GT500 owners through Shelby Automobiles’ Mod Shops program. This particular 2009 GT500 Super Snake is a rare Pace Car Special Edition model designed to be a replica of the pace car used in the 2009 Shelby 427 NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
