Blue Mustang Colors

You probably didn't know that there have been over almost 180 "blue" Mustang color options throughout the history of the Mustang with 81 "blue" unique colors offered during that time. Below we have created a data table with all the blue Mustang shades offered throughout history with all the color codes, Ford codes and the Ditzler PPG codes too. The most famous blue color is easily the Grabber Blue color. First introduced in 1969 with the Shelby and increased its popularity during the early 70s. Most people know this blue Mustang color from the 1970 Boss 302. Over the years the Grabber Blue name changed to cross promotional names such as Blue Lightning, Competition Blue, and Pinto Blue. The story goes that the color is almost identical to Petty Blue and this color originated by accident by Petty brothers Richard and Maurice when running out of paint when painting a car. They ended up having to mix the dark blue and white paints together instead of using the colors separately so that they could finish painting. This came to be the color referred to as Petty Blue.

Best Shades of Mustang Blue

This topic is so subjective that I know we are going to ruffle some feathers with our picks for the best blue Mustang color shade. First of all this isn't easy because like we mentioned above there are 81 unique blue colors over the years for a total of 180 unique combinations on specific model years. Time to pick. First place for best shade of Mustang blue has to go to Grabber Blue. The history is strong and it is the one blue Mustang every fan remembers, easily one of the most iconic Ford Mustang colors ever made. Another awesome Mustang blue shade is an altogether more recent addition to the mix and is known as Kona Blue. It was introduced in 2010 and was around a few years before being replaced by Deep Impact blue. It makes our list because it was used on the 50th Anniversary 2015 Mustangs and it looks awesome (note it was a special order color). Another memorable blue shade was known as "Gulfstream Aqua" and was famously used for three model years from 1968-1970. The next blue Mustang shade on our best of blue list is Azura Blue was also rare in that it was only used in 2003 and 2004 and was only available on the Mach 1. It stood out and is now used by a lot of people on restomods. Rounding out our list of the best blue Mustang colors is the recent Lightning Blue that was used in 2017 on the GT350R. It is easily the best GT350R color around and looks awesome with the black stripe accents.
