R&A Motorsports of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, paid homage to the historic Twister Mustangs produced for Ford’s Kansas City, Missouri, District Sales Office in 1970 and 1985 by creating a limited-edition 2008 Twister Special. These 2008 models, available as convertibles or coupes, exclusively sported Grabber Orange paint. In addition to their original Ford VINs, these cars had unique R&A serial numbers. There were five variants, from the Base 315 HP EF-1 to the top-tier EF-5, named after tornado intensity levels.
Only two EF-5 Twister Specials were made, both having consecutive Ford VINs. These models featured a 5.4L V-8 with a ProCharger supercharger, JBA long-tube headers, and Ford Racing exhaust. They included a D&D 6-speed manual transmission, Sparco roll cage, and even a Bible. A Moser-built Ford 9-inch rear end with 4.11 gears and Baer 4-wheel disc brakes ensured powerful performance.
Exterior mods included black ground effects, a front air dam, rear spoiler, and a Classic Design Concepts “Shaker” hood scoop. Inside, the cars had embroidered Twister Special logos, Sparco racing harnesses, Auto Meter gauges, push-button start, and Ford’s Shaker audio system. Custom Foose 20×8.5-inch wheels with special center caps and high-performance tires provided excellent grip.
