Mustang Of The Day: 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 FRS Track Car

The 2012 Boss 302, echoing the iconic Boss 302 of 1969-70, was a factory-prepped Mustang designed for the track. It featured a host of specialized high-performance elements, including a 444-horsepower 5.0-liter engine with unique 4-valve heads and box intake, Brembo brakes, stiffer springs, manually adjustable struts and shocks, Pirelli PZero tires on 10-spoke wheels, and a quad exhaust system with tuned side-exits for enhanced sound.

Externally, it sported C-stripes reminiscent of the 1969 model, with options for a white or black roof, a distinctive front end with splitter, grille with blocked-off fog-light openings, and a rear spoiler. Production was limited to 3,290 units for the 2012 model year.

This particular 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 FRS is one of 14 examples converted for use at the Ford Performance Racing School and saw action in the 2019 25 Hours of Thunderhill. It is powered by a 5.0-liter BossR V8 mated to a Tremec T56 Magnum XL six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
