Saleen teamed up with race car legend Parnelli Jones for a 2007 Saleen Parnelli Jones limited edition Grabber Orange Mustang. Parnelli Jones was a very accomplished American race car driver who won the 1963 Indy 500 along with several other races in many types of vehicles including sports cars, Indycars, sprint cars, midget cars, off-road vehicles, and stock cars.
Unveiled as a 2007 model at the prestigious New York Auto Show, the 2007 Saleen Parnelli Jones Edition, based on the Ford Mustang, was added to Saleen’s vehicle lineup. Limited to just 500 units, this special edition Mustang, dubbed the Saleen “PJ” Mustang, featured design elements inspired by the Bud Moore Engineering-prepped Boss 302 Mustangs driven by Parnelli Jones to win the 1970 SCCA Trans-Am series championship.
The Saleen Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang reflects the same authentic vintage attitude but comes complete with a Saleen 302 cid V-8, 3-valve engine. This engine produces a whopping 370 SAE hp at 6000 RPM, and with 370 ft-lb of torque at 4000 RPM. In addition to the Mustang’s bold looks, Saleen options introduced with this vehicle included the lightweight aluminum hood, Super Shaker hood and cold-air intake system, and a Watts link-style rear suspension setup.
Inside, the Mustang’s well-appointed black leather interior is paired with yellow highlights and contrast stitching, featuring stylized “PJ” logos throughout, including on the seats and shift knob. Enhancing its aesthetic appeal are black rear window louvers, a rear wing, and visually captivating seven-spoke wheels. Noteworthy features encompass power 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, cruise control, power windows, and door locks.
