FOR SALE: 1970 Ford Mustang 428 Super Cobra Jet

Offered for auction on Bring A Trailer is a 1970 Ford Mustang SportsRoof, recently restored and finished in a sleek black on black color scheme. Under the hood lies a powerful 428ci Super Cobra Jet V8 engine, paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a 4.30:1 Traction-Lok differential. This Mustang was originally sold by Sheehy Ford of Marlow Heights, Maryland, and has since traveled through Georgia and Texas before being acquired by the seller’s father from Colorado in 2020.

The restoration work carried out in 2021-2022 involved disassembling the car, repainting the exterior, and reassembling the vehicle with many of the original parts. The exterior of the car features chrome bumpers, a satin-black stripe, and a shaker hood scoop. The color-matched 14″ steel wheels wear polished Ford Motor Company hubcaps and are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 white-letter tires, and the car has power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes.

The black interior is highlighted by high-back front bucket seats and a rear bench, all trimmed in matching upholstery, along with a color-matched dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. The car comes equipped with lap belts, a Hurst shifter, an analog clock, a heater/defroster, and a push-button radio. The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges, with the odometer indicating just under 8,000 miles.

The 428ci Super Cobra Jet V8 engine comes equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and a shaker hood scoop. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Detroit Locker 4.30:1 Traction-Lok axle.

Accompanying this Mustang 428 SCJ are photos documenting the restoration work, a 2022 SAAC “Gold” concours award, magazines featuring the car, an Elite Marti report, a reproduction window sticker, a dealer invoice, and a warranty identification card. The car is now offered at auction with no reserve and comes with a clean Michigan title in the seller’s father’s name.
