2024 Ford Mustang Overview
In 1964, few could have imagined that Ford’s newly minted pony car, the Mustang, would still be in active production 60 years later. Nonetheless, here we are today, sharing in appreciation for all that makes this perennial powerhouse special. As storied as any domestic high-performance mill on the road today, the Mustang embodies a free-spirited nature, much like the wild steed for which it is named.
With the launch of 2024 year model production, the Mustang officially entered its 7th generation, debuting a noticeably refined, yet sleek outward persona, with a slight nod to retro exterior styling cues of yesteryear. Not to be understated, the 2024 Mustang also packs plenty enough punch to solidify its place atop Ford’s performance roster. From the 315 hp 2.3L EcoBoost, to the 500 hp 5.0L Coyote V8, there is no shortage of potency to go around.
Ford has also left no stone unturned when attempting to expand upon previous upgrades to the Mustang’s performance-inspired interior. The 7th-gen Mustang debuts an all-new “fighter-jet inspired” cabin, ripe with interactive features that allow motorists to personalize numerous facets of their driving experience. Inside and out, the 2024 Mustang is indeed unique, if not revolutionary.

2024 Ford Mustang Background & History
Though the 2024 model year serves as the seventh-generation Mustang’s official debut, this latest addition to the Mustang stable has actually been in the making for quite some time. In truth, the development of the S650 was already in full swing at the time of the global COVID-19 pandemic, yet ground to a near-standstill in the pandemic’s midst.
Supply chain shortages and work stoppages threatened to derail timely issuance of the S550’s ultimate replacement, further complicating matters as a whole. As rumors floated about, the sixth-generation Mustang continued to grow even longer in the tooth. Still, no concrete release date was issued, and very little was known, regarding the particulars of Ford’s impending build.
Finally, the world was granted its first glimpse of the seventh-generation Mustang at the 2022 North American Auto Show, on September 14th, 2022. Reception to this unveiling was largely positive, with much talk centering around Ford’s focus on the highly-billed performance acuity of the all-new seventh-generation Mustang. Of special interest, was the promise of the 500-horsepower Dark Horse to come.
While the S650 was not initially slated to offer much in the way of new or reinvented powerplants, virtually every engine on the roster received slight upgrades in their rated output, over that of years past. Perhaps more noticeable, were the styling adaptations and liberties taken during the design of the S650. The seventh-generation Mustang appears overtly sleek, with sweeping body lines reminiscent of many foreign performance vehicles of the current day.
The seventh-generation S650 Mustang officially entered production during the summer of 2023, hitting showroom floors shortly thereafter. To date, all such production has taken place at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.
