Westen Champlin Puts A 1500HP Diesel Engine Into His Mustang

Westen Champlin, a popular YouTuber, is obsessed with horsepower and has built some insane cars over the years, including a Cummins-powered Ford Mustang in 2020. Although the 5.9-liter six-cylinder diesel engine was originally rated at 230 hp and 440 lb-ft (597 Nm) of torque, Champlin added a massive turbocharger to boost the power output to over 612 hp and 1,500 lb-ft (2,033 Nm) of torque at the wheels.

However, Champlin recently decided to replace this engine with a new 12-valve diesel engine and traveled over 1,100 miles to Utah to have the swap done by the team at Power Driven Diesel. Before the engine swap, Champlin tested the Mustang on the dyno and achieved 612 hp. But the new diesel engine is a significant improvement, with the third dyno run producing an astonishing 1,264 hp and 2,200 lbs (2,982 lbs) of torque to the rear wheels, equivalent to about 1,500 hp at the crank.

It’ll be exciting to see what Westen plans to do next for his Mustang!
