Tuned Ford Mustang GT Drag Races An Electric BMW 3.0 CSL Replica

Mat Watson and the CarWow team consistently produce interesting drag racing content that captivates audiences. They pit remarkable vehicles together to compete head-to-head in an array of thrilling tests and races.

In this video, we get to witness a drag race between a Ford Mustang GT and a BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile, yet with a unique twist. It’s a showdown between the newer Ford Mustang V8 with old tech versus a BMW 3.0 CSL that has been given a much newer electric engine by Electric Classic Cars.

The Ford Mustang in the video is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, skillfully tuned by Clive Sutton. In contrast to its standard output of 450 horsepower (335 kilowatts), the engine’s potency has been elevated to 490 hp (365 kW). Torque remains steady at 390 pound-feet (530 Newton-meters). This enhancement derives from a novel intake, an updated exhaust system, and an upgraded electronic control unit (ECU). Power from the Mustang’s engine is transferred to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Standing in opposition is no ordinary classic BMW. The vehicle incorporates a powertrain sourced from Tesla, with the 3.0 CSL replica housing a Tesla Large Drive Unit alongside a Tesla battery pack. The drive unit is adept at generating approximately 450 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. But for this matchup, the car has been de-tuned to 300-350 hp due to tire size limitations.

Will the Mustang with more power and torque come out as the victor or will the BMW snatch the victory? Watch the video to find out!
