This High-Mileage 2008 Shelby GT500 Can Still Put Down A Lot Of Power On The Dyno

In 2007, Ford and Shelby American introduced the GT500, a big brother to the Shelby GT, following a pattern set four decades earlier. Like its ’60s predecessor, the new GT500 elevated Shelby performance to new heights. The engine, a vital component defining the GT500, is an SVT-designed wet sump, iron block Triton V-8 displacing 5.4 liters. Topped with four-valve aluminum heads from the Ford GT and utilizing a Rootes-type supercharger, it boasts an impressive output of 500 HP and 480 lb-ft of torque.

The hand-built SVT engine is fortified with a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and a high-efficiency cooling system. Additionally, a vented hood aids in underhood air escape during full operating speed. Completing the package, the GT500 features a Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission, tuned suspension, Brembo disc brakes, a body kit, and 18-inch SVT wheels, ensuring it lives up to the legacy of the original.
