Shelby GT500 Takes On A Dodge Challenger Black Ghost In Edmunds’ U-DRAG RACE

American muscle cars are built for drag races, and in Edmunds’ U-Drag Race, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 faced off against the limited-edition 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost. The U-Drag Race is named after its track design. Both cars start from a standstill and race a full quarter of a mile before reaching a braking zone. There, they turn around quickly and accelerate back to the starting line.

The limited-edition Dodge Challenger Black Ghost, with only 300 units produced, features a potent 6.2-liter V8 engine generating 807 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque. It transfers power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Weighing 4,476 pounds, the Black Ghost is an imposing machine.

On the other hand, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is equipped with a slightly smaller 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. Its power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. Weighing 4,168 pounds, the GT500 is lighter than the Challenger Black Ghost.
