1992 SAAC MKI Mustang

In 1991, noticing the absence of the Shelby name in the lineup of hot Mustangs, the Shelby American Automobile Club collaborated with Ford to establish the SAAC Car Company. Their goal was to produce a limited series of SAAC MK I Mustangs for 1992.

These vehicles, unveiled at SAAC’s national convention in June 1991 and constructed by Detroit’s Watson Engineering, featured the GT40 5.0L engine generating 295 HP. This was achieved through enhancements like high-flow GT40 cylinder heads, a GT40 tubular intake, a 65mm throttle body, underdrive pulleys, and a high-flow fuel pump.

Distinguishing the SAAC MK I from other special-edition Mustangs were its additional features, including a 5-speed manual transmission, Hurst shifter, 4-wheel disc brakes with semi-metallic linings, higher-rate lowering springs, Koni adjustable struts and shocks, custom leather upholstery, an interior chassis stiffening brace, ceramic-coated headers, and Borla low-restriction mufflers.
