Check out this drag race between a 2024 Ford Mustang GT and a 2023 Nissan Z, brought to us by the Sam CarLegion YouTube channel. The 2024 Ford Mustang and the 2023 Nissan Z represent two entirely different philosophies in the same segment, making it interesting to see how they compare.
The Mustang GT in this race is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, producing 480 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque and sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
The transmission is one of the few similarities between these two cars. The Nissan Z also features a three-pedal setup with six gears but is paired with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. This Japanese sports coupe is rear-wheel-driven, lighter, smaller, and more agile than the Mustang, but it has slightly less power, rated at 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
Interestingly, despite their distinct concepts, these two sports cars deliver very similar performances. The Mustang initially struggles to accelerate, but once it gains momentum, it steadily leaves the Nissan behind. Watch the entire race in the video below.
