Ford Motor Company builds on their tradition with another aviation themed Mustang and this time they are honoring the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen with a one-of-a-kind 2013 Red Tails Mustang.  The one-off Red Tails Mustang will be auctioned off Thursday, July 26 to benefit the EAA Young Eagles program at the EAA AirVenture annual aviation celebration in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  This marks the fifth straight year Ford and EAA AirVenture have teamed up to raise money for the Young Eagles program.

The Red Tails Mustang is modeled after the P-51 Mustangs flown by the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.  The Red Tails Mustang features a polished aluminum and silver chrome finish with red and yellow accents.Under the hood, the Mustang is geared for high performance with a 5.0-liter engine, Ford Racing 2.3L Whipple Supercharger and handling pack, custom Recaro race seats including an embroidered “Red Tails” logo, unique side exhaust, quad rear exhaust, Forgiato custom wheels, and many other custom features.  A cool feature of this one-off Mustang is the projection lamps, they project ‘Red Tails’ onto the ground as the unlock button on the key fob is pressed.

“With the distinctive Vehicle Identification Number 00051 representing the 51st 2013 Mustang built, the attention to detail and the incredibly unique paint approach, this one-of-a-kind “Red Tails” Edition Mustang will appeal to aviation and automotive enthusiasts and serious vehicle collectors,” said Kevin Keling, Ford corporate events manager.

Previous vehicles included the F-18 inspired ‘Blue Angels’ Mustang, SR-71 ‘Blackbird’ Mustang, AV-x10 ‘Dearborn Doll’ Mustang and the Ford AV8R Mustang.
