The fifth-generation Ford Mustang (S-197) marked a significant turning point for the iconic pony car. With its retro-inspired styling, the Mustang returned to the visual identity that made the original so memorable. At the top of the lineup sat the Shelby GT500, the ultimate expression of the S-197 platform and one of the most powerful factory Mustangs of its era. Now, an exceptionally preserved 2014 example has appeared for sale on Bring a Trailer with just 689 miles on the odometer.
Supercharged Trinity V8 Delivers 662 Horsepower
Under the hood sits Ford’s supercharged 5.8-liter Trinity V8, a modular engine producing a factory-rated 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque. Forced induction comes from an Eaton 2.3-liter Twin Vortices supercharger, helping the GT500 exceed Ford’s original performance targets of 650 horsepower, 600 lb-ft of torque, and a 200-mph top speed.
Power reaches the rear wheels through a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission, featuring a traditional cue-ball-style shift knob. A Torsen limited-slip differential helps distribute torque, providing the mechanical foundation needed to manage the substantial output. The optional SVT Track Package adds an external engine oil cooler, transmission cooler, and differential cooler, improving thermal management during demanding driving conditions.
SVT Performance Hardware and Distinctive Styling
Finished in black with contrasting black center stripes, this GT500 combines understated styling with unmistakable Shelby details. Exterior equipment includes HID headlights, fog lights, hood vents, a rear spoiler, Shelby badging, and polished exhaust outlets. An optional glass roof adds another desirable specification detail.
The car rides on staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged alloy wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. Its SVT Performance Package also includes electronically adjustable Bilstein dampers, while Brembo front calipers provide braking performance through the four-wheel disc setup.
Recaro Interior and Premium Equipment
Inside, the cabin is upholstered in Charcoal Black leather and features Recaro front sport seats with embroidered Shelby Cobra logos. The driver faces a 220-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,000-rpm redline.
Additional equipment includes the Shaker Pro sound system, CD stereo, cruise control, and air conditioning. The optional Electronics Package brings navigation and dual-zone automatic climate control.
A Low-Mileage Final-Year Shelby
With only 689 miles recorded, this 2014 Shelby GT500 represents an unusually preserved example from the final production year of the fifth-generation Mustang. Its combination of the 662-hp Trinity V8, six-speed manual transmission, SVT performance equipment, glass roof, and premium interior options makes it particularly appealing to collectors.
More than a decade after its introduction, the S-197 GT500 remains a defining chapter in modern Mustang performance. This low-mileage example offers an opportunity to acquire one of Ford’s most formidable factory-built Mustangs in remarkably close-to-new condition.
