1967 Shelby GT500 Big-Block Muscle Car Up for Auction

One of 2,048 GT500 fastbacks produced for the 1967 model year

The 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 remains one of the most recognizable American muscle cars of the 1960s, combining Carroll Shelby’s performance-oriented engineering with the increasingly aggressive styling of Ford’s second-generation Mustang. A particularly striking example, finished in Dark Moss Green and equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, is now attracting attention on Bring a Trailer.

One of 2,048 GT500 fastbacks produced for the 1967 model year, this example was originally delivered to Johnny Bolton Ford in Maitland, Florida. Its factory specification included Dark Moss Green paint, a black vinyl interior, white over-the-top stripes, and the optional Extra Cooling package, Interior Décor Group, Courtesy Light Group, and fold-down rear seat. The car has since been repainted under previous ownership.

428-Cubic-Inch V8 and Four-Speed Manual

Power comes from a 428-cubic-inch Police Interceptor V8 featuring dual Holley four-barrel carburetors. Factory-rated at 335 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, the big-block engine sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The optional Extra Cooling package adds a larger radiator to help manage engine temperatures.

Mechanical refurbishment includes a 2016 rebuild of the four-speed transmission, power brake booster, and power steering control valve. The suspension features heavy-duty coil springs and an anti-roll bar up front, along with heavy-duty rear leaf springs. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

Classic Shelby Styling and Interior Details

The GT500 retains its distinctive visual identity, including a fiberglass ventilated hood with integrated scoop, hood lock cables, ducktail rear spoiler, fender extensions, and sail-panel and quarter-panel air scoops. Additional details include inboard grille-mounted high-beam headlights, GT500 rocker stripes, dual exhaust outlets, and 15-inch five-spoke Magstar alloy wheels wearing Shelby Cobra center caps.

Inside, the black vinyl bucket seats are accompanied by a woodgrain steering wheel, an AM radio, and a roll bar with inertia-reel seatbelts. Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and Stewart-Warner auxiliary oil-pressure and amperage gauges. The five-digit odometer displays 29,000 miles, although the Texas title carries an exempt odometer status.

Auction Details and Documentation

Purchased by its current owner in 2015, this GT500 is offered through dealer consignment with a Deluxe Marti Report, Shelby American invoice, original order documentation, service records, and a Texas title.

At the time of writing, bidding has reached $176,000, with the auction scheduled to conclude on November 9, 2026. Its combination of documented Shelby provenance, desirable four-speed configuration, and unmistakable 428-powered character makes it an appealing addition to the classic Mustang market.
