The 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC represents the most extreme factory-built Mustang short of the ultra-exclusive Mustang GTD. Developed alongside Ford’s GT3 racing program and inspired by the GTD supercar, the Dark Horse SC transforms the already capable Dark Horse into a legitimate world-class track weapon while still remaining street legal. Ford engineered the SC as the spiritual successor to the Shelby GT500, but with a sharper motorsports identity and more advanced chassis technology.

At the center of the package is a supercharged 5.2-liter cross-plane-crank V8 paired exclusively with a seven-speed Tremec dual-clutch transmission. The result is a Mustang capable of competing directly with machines like the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 GT3, and BMW M4 CSL. Ford claims the Dark Horse SC was tested extensively at Sebring and Virginia International Raceway alongside the Mustang GTD and GT3 race car to refine cooling, suspension calibration, braking performance, and aerodynamic balance.

Exterior Design

The Dark Horse SC immediately separates itself from the standard Mustang lineup through aggressive aerodynamic enhancements and race-inspired styling. Up front, the SC receives a revised fascia with larger cooling openings, functional aerodynamic ducts, and a carbon-fiber hood vent secured with exposed hood pins. The front splitter and revised underbody airflow management improve high-speed stability while giving the car a more planted visual stance.

Along the sides, widened bodywork, unique Dark Horse SC badging, dark anodized trim, and exclusive 20-inch wheel designs create a more technical and motorsport-focused appearance. Standard cars receive cast-aluminum wheels, while Track Pack models upgrade to exposed carbon-fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

At the rear, the SC features a revised diffuser, active aerodynamic tuning, and a larger rear wing with a removable gurney flap. Track Pack models add a more aggressive carbon-fiber wing and ducktail spoiler combination capable of generating up to 620 pounds of downforce at 180 mph.

Available Exterior Colors

Ford offers several exclusive and heritage-inspired finishes for the 2026 Dark Horse SC lineup:

  • Shadow Black
  • Carbonized Gray Metallic
  • Oxford White
  • Race Red
  • Adriatic Blue Metallic
  • Avalanche Gray
  • Exclusive Argon Blue Metallic

Ford also introduced optional painted graphics packages, black roof treatments, and track-focused accent themes including Teal Accent Pack styling.

Interior Design and Comfort

Inside, the Dark Horse SC combines modern Mustang technology with track-focused ergonomics. The cabin is centered around Ford’s panoramic curved digital display setup, which integrates a 12.4-inch configurable digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system beneath a single magnesium-framed glass panel.

The steering wheel uses a flat-bottom design trimmed in leather with exposed carbon-fiber accents and magnesium paddle shifters. Aluminum pedals, unique Dark Horse SC badging, and Ford Racing sill plates further distinguish the cabin from standard Mustang models. Ambient lighting and customizable performance displays help create a more premium atmosphere while still emphasizing driver engagement.

Standard seats are leather-trimmed heated and ventilated sport buckets, while available Recaro performance seats provide greater lateral support for track driving. Interior accent themes include Prime Blue, International Orange, Red, and Teal combinations. Track Pack models can be configured with rear-seat delete setups for additional weight reduction.

Engine, Performance, and Specifications

The Dark Horse SC is powered by Ford’s supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 engine shared with the Mustang GTD and previous Shelby GT500.

The engine is paired exclusively with a Tremec TR-9070 seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels through a 3.73 TORSEN limited-slip differential. A lightweight carbon-fiber driveshaft helps reduce rotational mass and improve throttle response.

Optional Packages

Ford offers several appearance and performance packages for the Dark Horse SC.

The available Track Pack is the most significant upgrade, transforming the SC into a more serious circuit-focused machine. It adds exposed carbon-fiber wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, carbon-ceramic brakes, revised MagneRide calibration, aerodynamic upgrades, and a more aggressive rear wing package capable of generating substantial downforce at high speed. Weight reduction measures also remove approximately 150 pounds compared to the standard SC.

The Carbon Fiber Exterior Package adds additional exposed carbon trim pieces throughout the exterior, while the Classic Package introduces heritage-inspired styling details and optional red Brembo brake calipers. The Teal Accent Pack adds unique interior and exterior teal highlights with matching brake calipers.

Ford also plans a Track Pack Special Edition featuring titanium interior trim elements, unique graphics, and exclusive color combinations.

Pricing

Ford officially positions the Dark Horse SC between the standard Dark Horse and the Mustang GTD in both price and performance.

Estimated U.S. Pricing

Model Starting MSRP
Mustang Dark Horse SC Around $108,485
Dark Horse SC with Track Pack Around $144,985

These figures place the Dark Horse SC directly into competition with high-end sports cars such as the Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 Carrera models, and Mercedes-AMG GT variants.

Final Thoughts

The 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC is one of the most ambitious performance Mustangs Ford has ever produced. Rather than simply adding horsepower to the standard Dark Horse, Ford engineered a far more comprehensive package with race-derived suspension tuning, advanced aerodynamics, a dual-clutch transmission, and technology borrowed directly from the Mustang GTD program.

With 795 horsepower, extensive track capability, and unmistakably aggressive styling, the Dark Horse SC represents a major evolution for the Mustang brand and firmly establishes Ford’s newest flagship muscle car as a legitimate global performance contender.
