2024 Ford Mustang GT Tested On The Dyno

The new 2024 Mustang GT boasts an upgraded 5.0-liter V8, delivering 486 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque with Ford’s optional active-valve exhaust, making it the most powerful GT model to date.

As the new-generation Mustang begins to arrive at US dealerships, it’s no surprise that enthusiasts are subjecting them to dyno tests. Middleton Motorsports, based in Wisconsin, recently conducted a dyno test on a 2024 Ford Mustang GT convertible equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

During the three dyno runs, the Coyote V8 achieved its highest horsepower output in the first test, producing 408.75 hp at 7,250 rpm. The peak torque figure was recorded in the third run, with the 5.0-liter engine generating 359.57 lb-ft (487 Nm) at 5,020 rpm. It’s worth noting that these numbers represent wheel output, while Ford specifies power at the crankshaft. Middleton Motorsports estimated that, considering the 1.520:1 ratio of fifth gear used in the tests, the Mustang GT could yield approximately 420 hp.

It’s worth noting though that the new Mustang had less than 1,000 miles on it at the time of recording, leaving room for potential performance improvements as the engine and gearbox continue to break in.
