1971 Ford Mustang Spring Special Value Hardtop
The 1971 Spring Special Value Mustang hardtop featured many Mach 1 and Boss sport appearance upgrade on the base level Mustang hardtop.
Continuing the theme of the 1970 Grabber Mustangs was the 1971 Spring Sports Coupe. The Spring Sports Coupe capitalized on the ’71 Boss Mustangs, just as the ’70 Grabber had capitalized on the ’70 Boss. The Spring Sports Coupe was dressed up to simulate a 351 Boss, with quite a long list of wanted features such as: Boss side stripes (no lettering), NASA hood, Mach 1 grille w/ “sport” lamps, E70 x 14″ whitewalls, hubcaps w/ trim rings, dual sport mirrors, and the Mach 1’s coordinated moulding/bumper organization. It was officially called the ‘hardtop special value package’, and was scheduled to be offered from March through May of ’71.
Another unique feature of this model was it’s able to carry most drivetrains, except Ford’s 351HO, which was only available in the Boss model. Only a few of the Spring Sports Coupes have been found, and it’s range of options can definitely make for some interesting possibilities.
I have on of these “Spring Special” Mustangs…I would really like to know how many unaltered of these are still around. Mine is a 302/C4 Blue one. It is according to the Marty report 1 of 9002 built and only 197 in this configuration were produced It was a one owner (other than me) and has 59,945 original miles. interior is clean and I had it painted with the exact matching paint codes. still sitting on the original 14″ Goodyear White wall tires.
I recently purchased a 71 Spring Special with a 302V2 with 33k miles. It is in great condition, only upgrades, stereo and Straight pipes and it was painted a Medium Yellow Gold. My son and I are going to rebuild the engine, a few engine mods, intake, 4 barrel carb and electronic ignition. The trunk is bare, it came with the original Firestone spare tire and jack!
I have a 1971 spring special. Want to sell. Think one of the last around
Hello Dave, Do you still have your 71 Spring Special? Can you send a couple of pictures to my email. What is your asking price?
I have a 1971 Spring Sport Special that I’m selling. It is pewter silver with a black standard interior. 302 automatic. Original paint in very nice condition. No rust. Interior is mint. I am second owner. Had it for over 20 years. Garaged it’s whole life. Roughly 71000 miles. Never been apart. Added factory tach and gauges, courtesy lighting, factory am/fm radio. I have pictures. Text 631-833-0305 I have lots of pictures. If you saw the online post about the Top 5 WORST Mustangs ever made, that is my car on the cover. I reinstalled the factory wheels and whitewall tires.
