Listed for sale through Sotheby’s Motorsport, this 1967 Ford Mustang GT500CR 900S represents a uniquely specified interpretation of Classic Recreations’ Shelby-based restomod formula. Commissioned as a one-off build by Classic Recreations’ owner, it is reportedly the only GT500CR produced with a 572ci Ford Racing big-block V8. The three-year build combines period-correct Shelby styling with contemporary chassis, braking, fuel-delivery, and electronic systems.
The naturally aspirated 572ci Ford Racing crate engine produces a claimed 655 horsepower and uses professionally configured multi-port fuel injection by Jason Wheeler of The Outlaws, rather than a Holley Sniper throttle-body system. A ported fuel rail supports the high-flow setup, while BBK long-tube headers and dual 2.5-inch Magnaflow exhaust provide the engine with a less restrictive route to the atmosphere. Power reaches the rear wheels through a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a Fab 9-inch rear axle with a 3.70:1 ratio and Positraction.
The chassis was comprehensively re-engineered to handle the additional output. Power rack-and-pinion steering, CR Mustang II front coilovers, a Total Control G-Link rear coilover system, tubular subframe connectors, and front and rear sway bars modernize the Mustang’s handling. Wilwood 14-inch two-piece slotted and cross-drilled rotors with six-piston calipers provide substantial stopping power at all four corners, complemented by an adjustable rear proportioning valve.
Pepper Grey paint, authentic Carroll Shelby fiberglass enhancements, GT500CR badging, sequential taillights, a Le Mans-style fuel cap, cosmetic roll bar, and staggered 18-inch Shelby 427 wheels give the car its unmistakable Shelby-derived appearance. Michelin Pilot Sport tires measure 275/35ZR18 at the front and 315/30ZR18 at the rear.
The black interior combines Carroll Shelby Scat Rally Series 1000 seats and G-Force five-point harnesses with white-face Shelby gauges, a 200-mph speedometer, Deluxe 1967 trim, and a woodgrain aluminum steering wheel. Modern equipment includes air conditioning, JVC touchscreen Apple CarPlay, Kicker audio, and a custom subwoofer enclosure.
An 18-gallon Stealth fuel cell, VaporWorx twin-pump system, trunk-mounted Optima battery, Painless 12-circuit harness, BeCool aluminum radiator, and twin 13-inch electric fans complete the mechanical package. With annual service and inspection completed on August 4, 2026, this GT500CR 900S presents itself as a turnkey, collector-oriented restomod built around an unusually large-displacement, all-motor Ford V8.
