Now available on Bring a Trailer, this 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 represents a particularly formidable interpretation of Shelby American’s modern “King of the Road” formula. Originally built as a GT500 before being sent to Shelby American in Las Vegas, the car received both King of the Road and widebody conversions, transforming Ford’s already potent supercharged Mustang into an estimated 900-horsepower performance machine.
At the center of the conversion is Ford’s hand-assembled 5.2-liter Predator V8, which was upgraded with a Whipple supercharger, revised air-intake system, high-volume intercooler and heat exchanger, and Shelby by Borla cat-back exhaust. Shelby also installed performance half-shafts and uprated axles to better accommodate the additional output. Power reaches the rear wheels through the factory Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential with 3.73:1 gearing. Shelby rated the modified engine at approximately 900 horsepower, placing this GT500 firmly into supercar-performance territory.
The chassis was upgraded to match the increased power. The GT500KR package incorporates height-adjustable dampers, caster-camber plates, and revised sway bars, while Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers provide braking authority through two-piece ventilated rotors. Shelby American 20-inch wheels are fitted with wide Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 305/30 at the front and 335/30 at the rear.
Visually, the car combines Kona Blue Metallic paint with painted high-gloss Oxford White over-the-top stripes. Shelby modifications include a carbon-fiber hood, front splitter, and rear diffuser, while the Carbon Fiber Track Pack’s manually adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing remains in place. Additional equipment includes HID headlights, heated mirrors, Cobra puddle lamps, and LED taillights with sequential turn signals.
Inside, Ebony leather and Miko suede upholstery cover the front bucket seats, which feature Shelby and GT500KR embroidery. The Carbon Fiber Track Pack deleted the rear seats in favor of a more focused performance configuration. The cabin also features an Alcantara- and leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, a gray center stripe, and a configurable 12-inch LCD instrument cluster, supplemented by analog oil-pressure and oil-temperature gauges. Technology Package equipment includes an eight-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen with navigation, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and BLIS blind-spot monitoring, alongside dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and Ford Track Apps.
According to Shelby American correspondence, this is one of only two U.S.-market Kona Blue examples from the model year equipped with both King of the Road and widebody conversions. It is reportedly the only one of those two fitted with black supercharger and wheel finishes, adding further distinction to an already rare modern Shelby.
