The Ford Mustang has roots dating back to 1964 and over the years has come in many different shapes and sizes. The 2021 Ford Mustang maintains the sixth generation body style coming in both coupe or convertible. The Mustang comes with just the right amount of power no matter the engine or model you choose. Whether it be the 310-horsepower, 2.3 liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline-four in the base model or the 760-horsepower 5.2-liter Supercharged V8 out of the Mustang Shelby GT500, the Mustang can hold its own against its Chevy or Dodge counterparts. The Mustang will come with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic for all models except the GT500.

The Mustang comes in enough variations for anyone to enjoy. That’s what makes it such an icon even after 57 years in production. Prices range from $27,000 to around $74,000 depending on model and high-performance package add-ons. Today we’ll cover what makes the 2021 Mustang such an awesome car.

What Model is Best for Me?

2021 Ford Mustang (Base Model)

The base model Mustang borrows the 310-horsepower 4 cylinder-turbocharged engine out of the Ford Focus RS which lays down some serious heat when compared to the previous model V8 Mustang. As technology advances in today’s market, smaller displacement turbocharged engines have taken the place of the lowly V6 engine. So for under 30 grand, you can guarantee yourself to have fun even in a base model Mustang.

For an extra $9,000 you can upgrade from the Ecoboost 4 cylinder to a 5.0-liter V8 capable of 460-horsepower @7000 RPM also known as the Coyote V8. Add another $4,000 and that will put you into a GT Premium consisting of Recaro seats and carbon trim and a couple of other tech options.

The Mach 1 has replaced the 2020 GT350 for 2021 and will come with an extra 20 horsepower on top of the GT model. It will also include a stiffer suspension and Brembo brakes like the GT (with performance package). This model tacks on an additional $11,000 to the GT model. It of course will come with the Mach 1 appearance package giving it a more aggressive appearance, just like the GT350 did.

The GT500 comes with a gnarly 760-horsepower supercharged V8. It also comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its powerplant puts it into supercar-like status and with the Carbon Fiber Track package it can put up 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds. This makes the GT500 a track worthy weapon to compete with the ZL1 Camaro.

How Safe is the Mustang?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Mustang earned a five-star crash-test rating when put to the test. Though when tested by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), their scoring was not as favorable towards the Mustang. Their score came back as “Acceptable” (vs a top score of “Good”) due to the test dummy’s head rolling into the A-pillar just after impact. The reason this is particularly important is because many automotive injuries result in trauma to the neck and spine. If you find yourself in an accident, it can be helpful to have an accident attorney on your side, such as the lawyers at Abrahamson & Uiterwyk, who can help you navigate a case. The Mustang also fell short when it came to securing a child-seat in the back as the rating came back as “Marginal”. This comes as no surprise as the Mustang was not developed with rear passengers in mind.

Conclusion

As you can see the Mustang comes in just about every variation you could need it for. Whether a daily commuter or a weekend car meant for the track, the Mustang can meet every need. No matter your budget, there’s a Mustang out there for you.

As far as the 2021 models go, we would go with the 2021 Ford Mustang GT. It’s the best bang for the buck as far as performance goes when matched up to the new Mach 1 and GT500. Though with an unlimited budget we would pick up the GT500, who wouldn’t?!
