66-Mile 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra: A Fox-Body Time Capsule Heads to Auction

Offered for sale with only 66 original miles on the odometer

The 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra occupies a unique place in Mustang history. It was not simply a faster version of the GT; it was the inaugural production model from Ford’s newly established Special Vehicle Team and arrived during the final year of the Fox-body Mustang. Ford produced just 4,993 examples for 1993, making the Cobra an important bridge between the raw performance culture of the Fox era and the more sophisticated SVT Mustangs that followed.

Now, one of the most exceptionally preserved examples has emerged on Bring a Trailer. This particular Cobra shows just 66 miles and retains its original Teal Metallic paint, Opal Grey leather interior, 302ci V8, five-speed manual transmission, and Traction-Lok rear axle. It was purchased new from Roy Raymond Ford in Twin Falls, Idaho, and reportedly remained in storage under its original owner’s care until 2026.

The First SVT Cobra

The 1993 Cobra was the first Mustang developed under Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, and SVT’s approach was remarkably focused. Rather than simply increasing displacement, engineers substantially revised the familiar 5.0-liter small-block.

The naturally aspirated 302ci OHV V8 received GT40 cast-iron cylinder heads, a Cobra-specific upper intake manifold and camshaft, a 65mm throttle body, and aluminum roller rockers. Factory output was rated at 235 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, representing a meaningful step beyond the standard 5.0-liter Mustang of the period.

The engine drives through a BorgWarner T5 five-speed manual transmission and Traction-Lok rear differential. That combination, combined with SVT-specific suspension tuning, gave the Cobra a distinctly different character from an ordinary Fox-body GT.

SVT fitted custom-valved Tokico shocks and struts, revised springs and sway bars, and four-wheel disc brakes. The 17-inch turbine-style wheels were particularly significant for the era and remain one of the defining visual signatures of the first Cobra.

Teal Metallic and Opal Grey

This Cobra’s specification makes its extremely low mileage even more compelling. The car is finished in Teal Metallic over Opal Grey leather, with the factory 17-inch turbine wheels, raised rear spoiler, fog lamps, Cobra badging, and polished dual exhaust outlets.

Inside, the car retains its original period-correct cabin, including the leather upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s seat and CD stereo. It was also ordered with Ford’s Preferred Equipment Package, which added air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors and power door locks.

The five-digit odometer displays only 66 miles, meaning the interior, controls and drivetrain have experienced virtually none of the wear normally associated with a 33-year-old performance car.

Documentation and Condition

For collectors, provenance is nearly as important as mileage. The Cobra is accompanied by its original window sticker, clean Carfax report and clean Idaho title. The window sticker records an original delivered price of $21,223.

The Carfax contains no reported accidents or damage, although it includes a January 2017 entry identifying the vehicle’s color as yellow. That discrepancy is worth noting for prospective bidders and should be reconciled against the physical car and accompanying documentation.

There are also minor signs that the car was stored rather than preserved as a museum piece. Bring a Trailer notes scrapes underneath the front bumper cover, while the original Goodyear Eagle ZR45 tires are described as older. The wheel center caps have been removed but are included with the sale.

A Significant Fox-Body Cobra

The 1993 SVT Cobra’s importance extends beyond its production numbers. It represented Ford’s first serious modern factory effort to create a Mustang with a distinctly performance-oriented identity above the GT. The formula—engine upgrades, dedicated suspension tuning, larger wheels and four-wheel disc brakes—established the template that SVT would continue developing throughout the 1990s and into the supercharged Terminator era.

Today, the combination of first-year SVT status, final-year Fox-body architecture, factory specification, Teal Metallic paint, leather interior and just 66 miles makes this example fundamentally different from the modified and higher-mileage Cobras that dominate the enthusiast market.

At the time of writing, Bring a Trailer shows a $110,000 bid, with the auction scheduled to end October 4, 2026.  For a car that helped launch Ford’s SVT performance program while simultaneously closing the Fox-body chapter, this 66-mile Cobra offers an unusually direct connection to one of the most important transitions in modern Mustang history.
