Among the most sought-after Fox-body Mustangs ever produced, the 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R represents a rare chapter in Ford’s high-performance heritage. Developed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) as a factory-built competition-focused model, only 107 examples were produced for the model year, making it one of the rarest production Mustangs of the era.
Now listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, this one-owner Cobra R has accumulated just 373 miles since new and remains exceptionally well preserved. Finished in Vibrant Red Clearcoat, the car retains a highly original presentation and is powered by Ford’s 5.0-liter High-Output V8, rated at 235 horsepower.
Power is routed through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip rear axle, while the exclusive R Competition Package transformed the familiar Mustang platform into a track-capable machine that remained fully street legal.
SVT equipped the Cobra R with numerous performance upgrades designed to withstand the rigors of competition. Chassis enhancements included four-wheel power disc brakes with 13-inch front and 10.5-inch rear rotors, revised front and rear spring rates, heavy-duty dampers, an upgraded front stabilizer bar, a strut tower brace, and power steering assisted by an auxiliary cooler.
Additional cooling improvements came in the form of a heavy-duty aluminum radiator and external oil cooler, while unique aerodynamic elements included a model-specific rear spoiler. The package was completed by 17×8-inch cast-aluminum wheels.
Inside, the Opal Gray cloth cabin reflects the Cobra R’s uncompromising performance mission. Weight-saving measures dictated the use of lightweight bucket seats and the deletion of several comfort-oriented features.
Air conditioning and the factory audio system were omitted entirely, underscoring the car’s competition-focused intent. Despite its motorsport roots, the Cobra R retained enough equipment to satisfy road-legal requirements, including intermittent windshield wipers, dual remote mirrors, tinted glass, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
