The Mustang Mach-E, upon its unveiling in 2019, became perhaps the most surprising production vehicle to bear Ford’s prestigious pony car nameplate. Showcasing a decidedly crossover-esque physique, and harboring a fully-electric powertrain, the Mach-E broke many a barrier that few expected something out of Ford’s performance camp to break.
Now approximately ½-decade into production, the Mach-E continues to carve out its own unique place in the domestic EV market. In the years since its release, Ford has focused significantly upon improving the Mach-E’s effective range-per-charge rating, while simultaneously expanding upon the crossover’s growing list of amenities and driver-assistance features.
Ironically, the Mach-E has seen little in the way of overall change or continued refinement for the 2024 model year, remaining largely unchanged from earlier 2023 production. However, 2024 has seen the unveiling of an all-new Mach-E derivative, the Mach-E Rally.

Background & Details
While change is inevitable in the automotive world, few could have predicted the release of an all-electric crossover bearing the Mustang nameplate, especially at the time in which it was conceived. Seemingly out of left field, the Mach-E debuted to a host of skepticism in 2019. While a certain degree of bewilderment resulted therefrom, Ford’s new all-electric performance car began to slowly find a following of its own.
Even in the absence of 8 cylinders worth of displacement, the Mach-E still manages to dish out a surprisingly respectable performance. Though the Mach-E’s performance varies by trim, battery selection, and drive configurations, top-end output has peaked as high as 480 hp / 643 lb-ft. A number of Mach-E variants even record sub-4 second 0-60 MPH times.
Historically, the Mustang Mach-E has been offered in two distinct battery configurations. The first of these configurations includes a standard-range 70.0 kWh battery that offers an estimated travel distance of 250-plus miles per charge. However, those in need of a little additional range can opt for the Mach-E in its Extended-Range configuration, which can travel more than 300 miles per charge.
Yet another high point of Mach-E design comes in the form of the vehicle’s numerous amenities. The Mach-E features a sizable infotainment screen that rivals or exceeds that which comes standard in any competing EV. Additionally, the Mach-E now offers Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 drivers assistance package, further upping the ante, in terms of overall driver safety and comfort.
Ford uses the “Select” designation to identify the Mach-E in its base format. Nonetheless, this sporty EV is far from basic or mundane. The Mach-E Select features such luxuries as 18″ aluminum wheels, automatic climate control, simulated leather upholstery, and an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat.
A standard-range battery and rear-wheel drive motors serve as standard equipment on the “Select”. However, also worth noting is the fact that both battery and drive configurations can be adapted to the needs of individual consumers, for an additional fee.
2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium
The 2023 Mustang Mach-E Premium is always an option for those in search of a high-end all-electric crossover. This trim offers up a few additional upgrades not found on “Select” models. Some of the most notable of these upgrades include the addition of heated/ventilated front seats, panoramic roof glass, and an electrically actuated lift gate. Premium models also feature a more robust fast charger.
Consumers can also opt for Ford’s Nite Pony package when purchasing the Mach-E in its Premium trim. This package includes custom black exterior accenting and Gloss Black 19-inch wheels.
To date, the “Premium” has served as the most sought-after of all Mach-E trims. In this configuration, the Mach-E showcases a wide array of features and amenities, while remaining affordable to the masses. Some of the most noteworthy of these features and amenities include an electrically-actuated lift gate, a panoramic glass roof, and heated/ventilated seats.
Ford specifies that the 2024 RWD Mach-E will prove capable of traveling in excess of 310 miles on a single charge when paired with the company’s extended-range battery. Alternatively, those opting for AWD capabilities should expect this effective range to drop slightly, tallying to 290 miles per charge.
The Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 is a luxurious mill, capable of showcasing exemplary performance, largely unexpected from an EV. The California Route 1 provides consumers with 312 miles of operating range on a single charge when paired with Ford’s extended-range battery. Surprisingly, the Route 1 also proves capable of achieving 0-60 MPH times in less than 5 seconds.
As mentioned above, the Mach-E California Route 1 could easily be considered to be among the most luxurious and accommodating of EVs on the road today. Aside from a number of features also offered at other trim levels, the Route 1 comes equipped with Ford’s proprietary mobile access technology, which allows consumers to use their phones in place of a standard key. Also featured is Ford’s hands-free BlueCruise 1.2 system.
2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT
True to format, Ford reserved its famed GT designation for the most worthy and performance-oriented of all Mach-E variants in production. Posting official 0-60 MPH times of just 3.5 seconds, we feel that if any EV were to deserve the GT moniker, this would be it. The Mach-E GT features AWD dual-drive motors, allowing it to produce a peak output of 480 horsepower and 600 lb/ft of torque.
The Mustang Mach-E GT also looks overtly striking in its appearance, portraying a persona of no-holds-barred performance. A significant portion of this appearance is achieved through Ford’s liberal use of sporty trim cladding. Also standard is 20″ gloss-black painted wheels, set inside a set of high-performance Pirelli tires.

Many of an outwardly adventurous nature will find favor in the latest member of the Mach-E family. Ford has now unveiled the Mach-E Rally, which is designed to navigate the path less traveled. Intended to conquer both on and off-road conditions, according to Ford, the Mach-E serves as the first rally-inspired production EV.
This recently released Ford EV comes equipped with two tractive motors, providing a full range of AWD capabilities. In this configuration, the Mach-E Rally produces 480 horsepower, and 650 lb/ft of torque. Additional features unique to the Mach-E Rally include a 0.8-inch lift, and a host of newly added under-cladding. Also standard in this trim is rally-specific panel cladding, and a front-mounted recovery point.
