Engine Torque Specifications
All torque specifications provided in this table are those recommended by FORD. If you use special bolts, follow the torque specifications provided by the manufacturer. I recommend that you use the 3 step torque technique where you torque down the bolts in three equal steps. Once you have reached the maximum recommended torque setting, go around one more time. Do not torque in a circular pattern. Always torque cross to cross.

I had a ’68 GT 390 in the mid seventies, when I was in high school. I also had a ’68 289 coupe. Of all the cars I’ve ever owned, the one I would want back the most is the GT.
I’m trying to determine whether the 1968 Ford 390 CI High Performance (325hp) engine had mechanical or hydraulic lifters. Thanks
Your site said there were 4,113 S-Code 1968 Fastbacks made with the GT390 engine and 4-speed transmission. Can you tell me how many of these were GT cars and how many came with the highland green paint? The vehicle number on my Mustang is 8T02S134038 and I believe it was built in December 1967 and I think the Bullitt Car sold a few years ago was also built in December 1967, please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you
