The return of a Turbocharged SVO Ford Mustang may be sooner than later according to Bill Ford Jr. who revealed an Ecoboost engine will be in the cards for the Mustang in the future. He did this while speaking to a group at Princeton University the other night. After he was done speaking he took questions including one from a Jalopnik reader who asked if an Ecoboost engine would make its way under the hood of a Mustang. Ford answered “yes, it would” but revealed
nothing more leaving us to speculate what Ecoboost engine we will see, the 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo or the 2-liter four cylinder. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

I’d like an EcoBoost 5.0 V8, thanks!
In their recent (February 2011, I think) Car & Driver track comparisons, Mustang V6 dominated its class and suprised the editors. They said it would have done even better without the 112 mph governor. Imagine what the eco-boost V6 could do. Because it’s 100 lbs. lighter on the front end than the V8, it could actually out-handle the naturally aspirated V8 on the track, IMO, or at least be breathing down its neck. I’d buy one.
I dont like the idea of a turbo in a muscle car. Personally when I think of a turbo, I think of a rice burner or import. They should just leave it all motor and if anything put a supercharger on it. I think a supercharger brings more to the name of muscle rather than a turbo, you rarely hear about rice burners with superchargers.
Ryan, I disagree. My ’88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was a 143 mph race car with impeccable road manners. I still wish that I had it – and I put 188,000 miles on it before I sold.
A turbo is usually more of a driver’s car because the driver has to work with it a bit to attain all of it’s potential – keeping the rpm and boost up for best performance.
The SVT Turbo Mustang was an awesome, well-balanced driver’s car. I’d like to see the Mustange get the turbo.
