A total of 299,824 Mustangs were sold in 1969. Once again, the Hardtop coupe was the biggest seller, making up almost 43% of the cars sold in its basic form. Add the “Grande” model with 22,182 units and the coupe makes 50% of all units made for 1969. Total production was down 5.5% year on year, the third year in a row of declining sales.
The fastback sold 59,495 units (20% of sales) not including the limited edition cars. 1,628 Fastback Boss 302 and Fastback Boss 429 cars built and sold that year too.
I had a basic 69 Mach I. 351 Windsor, 2 barrel carb, no front spoiler(?), no rear window slats or add on rear spoiler. The back seat didn’t fold down either. When I try to find out more, says VIN too short. Where can find info on it?
If you have the VIN number and willing to spend a little money get a Marti report. Martiauto.com . The basic report is $20.00 and is available in an email. There are more reports that give more information on your vehicle and these are the Deluxe and (framed) Elite. Those take quite a bit of time to get. There is also a copy of the original invoice for $55.00 and I believe you need to show ownership for that one. Good luck if you haven’t found your info already.
Great site, thanks. As a teen 45 years ago, I had a 1969 Fastback ( F code ) that came with 1970 rear quarter panels. I’d heard that late in the production run, they ran out of ’69 qtr panels and started using 1970 versions like on the ’69 Boss 302’s. Do you have any info on that? Like what spread of production numbers ( last 6 of the VIN ) were they ? I’ve been trying to locate the old car and a close VIN would help. Thanks
How come there are no Mustang ‘GT’s listed in the numbers, I had a 1969 Mustang GT Hardtop, ‘R’ code, Drag Pack. 4 speed, no air or power steering. A very early build, I ordered it the first week you can order in October 1968. The car cam with a trunk mounted battery. Upon investigating, I found out that only the Boss 429 had a trunk mounted battery because they had a Drag Pack. They think what may have happened is when my car was being built, I had the Drag Pack option and they mounted the battery and space saver spare in the trunk.
